SVLL Updates on COVID-19

Update: 3/29/20 @ 5:30pm

We wanted to provide an update on the state of affairs with the league during the shelter in place order. Unfortunately, we continue to be in a wait and see situation with regards to the resumption of our season. The City of Sunnyvale and many neighboring cities have closed all athletic fields until May 1st, so we know that games will not resume any sooner than that date.

We will reassess our current situation in a couple of weeks, and hopefully will have more clarity on things then.

Our league had an April 4th deadline to turn in cookie dough fundraising orders. We have put that program on hold, so we ask that you simply hold any orders that you may have collected. If a donor requests that their order be cancelled, please honor that request. We do hope to continue with this fundraiser once the season resumes.

If families are looking for ways to keep their players in shape, The Hitting Vault is offering three month access to their Swing Fit online training program for $1. More details may be found at: https://store.thehittingvault.com/swingfit.html

We will send an update following our April Board of Directors Meeting in mid-April. Until then, please stay safe. We look forward to seeing kids back on the field soon.

Update: 3/12/20 @ 9:30am

The Sunnyvale Little League Board of Directors convened a meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss the current state of affairs with respect to the COVID-19 virus. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will adjust our policies as appropriate. At this time, we will continue with our league practice and game schedules.

As we indicated in our email last week, there are several best practices that we encourage everyone to partake in. We continue to encourage everyone to follow the recommended guidelines from the California Department of Public Health to protect themselves and those around them from any virus including respiratory viruses like COVID-19. To help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, please follow these important tips:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, like in this video from the CDC. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • All adults and children should stay home when sick. Share this video with your children and loved ones to teach them to cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional and should not attend games or practices.
  • California Department of Public Health does not recommend the use of face masks for general prevention and says that hand-washing provides better protection from infectious diseases.

In addition to the CDC & California Department of Public Health recommendations, please see the recommendations below for Sunnyvale Little League practices & games in order for us all to protect ourselves and those around us.
  • Players or parents feeling ill should not attend SVLL practices or games. .
  • No handshakes, high fives, fist pumps, chest bumps, huddles, group celebrations, etc
  • No pre or post game handshakes between players, coaches & officials - teams should continue to show good sportsmanship by clapping or cheering.
  • Drinks bottles should NOT be shared
  • Hats, batting helmets, and batting gloves should not be shared.
  • SVLL Games - home team should NOT provide water jugs for communal usage, each player should bring their own drinks bottle
  • We advise against sharing any food at games or practices.
  • All players & teams are advised to carry & use hand sanitizer
We will provide updates here on our website and through our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), should any of our policies or guidelines change.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact a Board Member.
