Update on Registration
Fees, Grants and Scholarships
Little League families and
prospective players & families
2020 has undoubtedly been a
trying year for us all. As we wait to see how efforts to combat the COVID-19
virus play out, we are busy preparing for a possible Little League Baseball
season in the spring of 2021. We understand that many families have been
impacted financially by the pandemic, and that this could prevent your ability
to pay registration fees this coming season. I wanted to reach out to offer a
couple of considerations.
1) First off, the Sunnyvale Little League
Board of Directors voted to reduce 2021 registration fees significantly. Our
T-Ball Division, which is provided for our youngest athletes, will only cost
$25 in 2021. We have lowered fees for other divisions as well, in an attempt to
make our league a more viable option for all.
2) Little League Baseball
Inc has partnered with T-Mobile, to offer registration fee grants for families
who are unable to pay for league fees. There are limited grants available for
families who qualify. Those families should apply for a grant immediately
online at:
https://www.littleleague.org/call-up-grant-program/
3) Sunnyvale Little League will also make a limited number of full and
partial scholarships available for players who are unable to pay our
registration fees in 2021 and that do not qualify for a T-Mobile grant. We
encourage these families to first apply for a T-Mobile grant. If you do not
qualify for one of these grants, please contact me and we can discuss our
scholarship program.
Our ability to reduce fees and offer scholarships
is a direct result of the generosity of our member families who elected to
donate their registration fees from the 2020 season. We have also been
benefactors for several key corporate sponsors including Adobe, Dicks
Sporting Goods, Sunnyvale Lumber, Peak Physical Therapy (Mountain View), 4D
Metal Finishing and Keller Orthodontics. We were able to prevent significant
financial loss last year from these donations, enabling us to offer more
children in our community with a chance to play Little League Baseball.
We also benefited from a Giving Tuesday event that netted the league
several hundred dollars from a variety of private donors. Its never too
late to donate to the league. If you do choose to give, we ask that you also
check with your employer to see if they offer corporate matching through
services like Benevity. Please contact our Fundraising Director, Sandy Yun, if
you would like to donate at
fundraising@sunnyvalelittleleague.com.
If you
havent already done so, please complete online registration for the 2021
season online at: http://www.sunnyvalelittleleague.com/gen/registration.htm As has
been mentioned in other communications, we will not collect any registration
fees until we have clear state, county and city safety protocols in place.
Please register your child so we may prepare for the upcoming season.
The State of California published guidelines pertaining to youth sports
on December 14th, which are headed in the right direction. This means that
events such as our player evaluations for our Majors and Minors Divisions could
take place in late January. More to come on that, but your child needs to be
registered to participate in that event.
Finally, as we close out the
year, I hope that you are all safe & healthy, and that you have a chance to
celebrate during this festive time of year. We are all very lucky to live in a
community that is both charitable and family oriented. I look forward to seeing
you all out on the baseball diamond as soon as safely possible.
Regards, Mike Lee President Sunnyvale Little League
